About ...

Doing it for your self

Firstly, I'm not going to pretend that I’m part of some huge effective organisation by writing about myself collectively or in the third person: there’s no Us, no Label, no Company. I do the lot myself – the writing, the composing, the playing, the recording, the printing, the photographing ... and so on. I used to hide behind the name HOPEFUL MUSIC, but I no longer see a point to that. You weren't impressed!

To paraphrase Robert Graves (The White Goddess), I’m a composer and guitarist by calling but I teach for a living. That’s what I do, compose music and play it, record it then try to sell it sometimes.
I suppose I’d call myself a Classical Guitarist for convenience, but that doesn’t quite explain it all. I've been at it for about 30 years, so I've nearly got the hang of it.

All the albums (CDs) available on this site are made to order, that means that I carry no stock as such – I produce them one by one as needed. Why, well simply because I like it but I think it all offers the potential buyer something unique – not uniform, corporate and mass-manufactured. In this way, nothing is over-produced. This also makes me quite eco-friendly ... doesn’t it ... trying not to be wasteful, something I take seriously.

Whilst I’m on that subject: if anyone supplies recycled inkjet-printable paper and card that I can use for making my CDs and books, please get in touch – remember I won’t be buying loads though.

I don’t offer my services as a Record Label(because I’m not one), if I did, I’d become the very thing I despise ... so do it yourself. However, I’d be more than happy to give any advice I can about doing it for yourself.
