Self-tutor guitar methods are about as effective as anti-dandruff shampoo - if they worked there wouldn't be so many of them about. This book is NOT for self-instruction, this book is for use only with a teacher.

Though this book is progressive and is clearly aimed at the beginner
it is not a conventinal guitar method, rather it is a body of didactic compositions.

My aim has been to provide flexible material that:

1. Is suitable for either finger style or plectrum guitar
2. Encourages notation reading and musicianship
3. Is technically progressive and accumulative
4. Is as musically stimulating as possible
5. Introduces musical as well as technical concepts
6. Allows the teacher to apply their own fingerings
and to stimulate their own approach

This first volume introduces eight notes (G-g) and brings in several accidentals early on. The pieces are offered in a progressive order, and I have endeavoured to hide exercises within the piece.

Fingerings can be added by the teacher, and each piece is suitable for p,i,m,a or plectrum markings. Finally, I have tried to make the pieces self-contained, but some will benefit from simple chordal accompaniment.
